Sacrament of the Eucharist

black IMG_0228.JPG

" Jesus said to them, 'Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day...'"

- John 6:53-54

Receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist:

In the Diocese of Harrisburg, Catholics first receive the Eucharist during their 2nd grade year of school.  We prepare children at St. John the Baptist for this Sacrament either in St. John the Baptist Catholic School or in our Religious Education program.

If a child desires to receive communion after their 2nd grade year (usually 8 years old), then the family should reach out to our Religious Education Office.  The same is true for adults who are interested in becoming fully initiated into the Catholic Church and receiving the Eucharist for the first time.  We have a Rite of Christian Initiation program tailored to both children and adults, which is very enlightening and formative for anyone desiring to become Catholic!
