Altar Server (4th - 12th grade)

Altar servers strive to make Catholic worship more reverent, efficient, and beautiful.
At St. John the Baptist, young people are eligible to be trained for service at the altar when they are in 4th grade.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The required criteria for serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion:
- If married, must be in a valid marriage according to the church’s regulations.
- Must be regularly attending Mass
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Can be divorced but not remarried unless the prior marriage(s) has been annulled
- Must be willing to go to a training by someone approved by the diocese to receive a mandate to serve
First Friday Communion Visits

We ask for at least 2 people per Mass, and Children age 14 and younger must be accompanied by at least one adult. If you have signed up for a Mass online, please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of Mass and let an usher know you will be bringing up the gifts so they are aware this duty is covered.
Greeter

Greeters warmly welcome the faithful at the entrances and may provide assistance or answer questions as necessary for those entering the church.
Lector

Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord during the Liturgy and, when there is no Deacon present, the General Intercessions. A lector must have a passion for Scripture; an ability to interpret and understand Scripture; and, sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly.
Sacristan

Sacristans dress the altar with a cloth, prepare the chalice cup with a purificator, corporals, and pall, place a bowel, towel, and cruet of water for washing the hands of the celebrant priest, places into the ciborium plates and cups, enough bread and wine to be consecrated for all who attend the Mass to be celebrated.
At the end of Mass, the sacristan retrieves the vessels from the credence table, washes them in the sinks provided in the working sacristy, and returns them to their proper place of storage.
Usher

Ushers assist at weekend Masses, Holy Day Masses, and other special occasions as needed. The responsibilities of an usher include directing crowd flow and movement, taking up the collection, and assisting those with special needs.
